Crete has hundreds of beaches, and of course, each is different and has its beauty, but none of them can compete with the stunning beauty of this beach; this laguna is the one point on Crete where the three seas meet, and the water is so shallow and sand so soft; this is the one place that makes the rest of the world disappear; this is the beach of Balos.

This natural biotope is located on the far west side of Crete’s Island and announced the most beautiful beach on Crete. Of course, it is a popular tourist attraction. The soft velvet sand is pinkishly gorgeous, the shallow waters look like expensive crystal diamond, and the turquoise colors look so surreal that it is hard to believe that all this exists in one place. A short walk up the mountain opens the doors to a magical picturesque view. This is the best place to come and relax and take a deep breath of new energy, even if just for a couple of hours.

Of course, the amusing nature beauty is the highlight of this trip, but there is also a bit of history. On the pirate island Granvousa, which is also a stop during the tour, is a Venetian castle, it has been primarily destroyed, but it keeps the perfect view as it is high in the mountain. After a significant explosion here, it took the Venetians some 30 years to reconstruct this castle. Still, some hundred years later, captain Granvousa betrayed his partners and sold this island to the Ottomans. So, this is the place to visit during their free time for those who can’t get enough of beauty and picturesque views.

Laguna Balos is located on the far west side, so that’s why also this tour starts early in the morning; pick-up time is around 06:00 AM. The bus takes you to the port of Kissamos, it takes a couple of hours to get there, but on the way, you will have a stop for a small break.

When you arrive at the port of Kissamos, your natural adventure begins as you get on board the boat that will take you to the first stop; the boat trip is about an hour, usually is the island of Hranvousa, where you have options for your free time. You can enjoy the beach or follow the path up the mountain to visit the Venetian castle and enjoy the magnificent view from up. Here the island is uninhabited, so there are no bars or coffee shops on the island but don’t worry as the boat has everything you could wish for – snacks, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, hot meals, and even sun-protective umbrellas for rent.

After the free time on the pirate island boat will bring you to the highlight of the day – the beach of Balos. Here you, of course, have free time to swim and enjoy the magical atmosphere, you can walk around to see the beautiful views or just suntan and relax. After visiting this fantastic place, the boat will bring you back to the port of Kissamos, and your bus will be waiting for you to get you back to your hotel. Also, there is a stop for a small break on the way back, and you will return around 21:30 to your hotel.
