Chania-Rethymno-Kournas

Here on the island of Crete, each side is different; nature is different, weather is a little different, people are other, and each city is entirely different. Now the administrative center of Crete is the city of Heraklion, but years ago, it was the city of Chania, and still, it remains the most beautiful city on the island.

Throughout history, this city was a critical point on the island. Still, the main period that makes this city so famous is the Venetian era, as back then, wealthy Venetian aristocrats lived here. So that they would not miss Venice too much, this city was constructed similarly. Now, thousands of people visit this old Venetian town every day as it’s gorgeous. Nero streets and romantic old buildings give a fantastic atmosphere when wandering around the historic city. This city is also a critical historical point as when the island of Crete became an independent state before uniting with the Republic of Greece, this city was the one to become an official capital city and was the first to carry the Cretan flag late 20s century.

During the Venetian period on the island of Crete, they used the island as a trade point. So they decided that also a midpoint between Heraklion city and Chania was needed, so the great Forteca was constructed, and now this castle is the biggest attraction in the city of Rethimnon, This city is the third biggest city on the island of Crete, but it is the youngest as so many young people live here. They are all students as here we have the great university of Crete located. But of course, the fabulous old town where the two significant historical periods are shown – the Venetian and the Ottoman.

But it wouldn’t be a Cretan tour if no nature would be included. The lake of Kournas is the place to enjoy some peaceful moments. This is the only natural freshwater lake on the island, and it lies next to a mountain, so it makes the most picturesque view as each photo of this lake looks like a painting done by the best painters in the world.
