Crete has all the beauty of the world and one of the most amazing things here is the stunning mountains that move the world and our spirits. Even though people mostly enjoy the beach, the sea, and pure relaxation, mountains can bring some super exciting emotions to us.
Early morning we pick up people that want to see more of the island and we start the drive up the mountain Selene which brings us to a completely different world. But just before entering this new world with a stunning view we say goodbye to the sea and small villages by the coast.
Just the first turn and suddenly the whole world changes, green and brown shades in nature, goats running around, peace and a sip of fresh air. But this is just the beginning. As we drive higher an old mythical warship place appears and then the great entrance is just in front of us, a place where time has stopped a long time ago, a place that is called Lasithi Plato.
This magical place comes with a lot of mythology, traditions, and love. Old villages like in the good old black and white movies, old Greek ladies taking care of their grandchildren, teaching them to take care of the place where many many generations have lived. Greek men worked in the field to support their families and take care of the land that they love. And small Kafenios where in the afternoon when all the jobs are done the families meet and come together as one and celebrate every moment of their life.
This is the place where the heart of the island lays and belongs. Place where modern technology is not needed, they do have it but they prefer their nature. Here they cherish their traditions and culture, far away from tourism and the beach and big cities.
Spending a day here gives so much energy and peace, some short moments in these mountains are a moment to remember forever.
